The PVL is a 24 mile extension of the Metrolink 91 Line from Downtown Riverside to south Perris. The line will travel through Riverside, Moreno Valley and Perris to bring commuter rail service to major employment centers. The project includes construction and rehabilitation of railroad tracks, upgrade of 18 at-grade crossings and construction of four new stations at Riverside Hunter Park, Moreno Valley/March Field, Downtown Perris and South Perris. It also will also provide greater access to Southern California’s commuter rail network for residents in Menifee, Murrieta, Temecula, San Jacinto, Hemet, Lake Elsinore and Wildomar.
The PVL will operate primarily on tracks used as a freight rail line for more than 120 years. Establishing Metrolink service on these tracks will transfer the repair and maintenance responsibilities from the privately-owned railroad to the Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA), the public agency that operates Metrolink.
